MEET NORMA
I’m seeking re‑election as your Rocky View Schools public school trustee and I’m asking for your support. Our ward is changing — two large rural wards have combined into one — and we need experienced, proven leadership to navigate this transition. For 15 years, I’ve worked hard to advocate for families, students, and schools across our communities. My work isn’t finished. I’ve been a strong voice for new schools in Langdon and Crossfield, and I’m running again because I believe in public education, I care deeply about the success of every student, and I know I can continue making a difference. This work matters. I love it. And I’m ready to keep making a difference.
FAMILY & COMMUNITY ROOTS
I’ve lived my whole life as part of this community. I was raised in the nearby Drumheller area, and the family farm is in Wheatland County. My husband, Mark, runs a local family business in Crossfield (CP Wood Gallery). Together, we raised two daughters who recently graduated from Rocky View Schools. From the first day of kindergarten to Grade 12 convocation, we lived the realities of RVS — bus routes and boundary changes, report cards and diploma prep, and the joy of great teachers who go the extra mile. My work is grounded in this full K-12 lived experience. Our family’s RVS story: We spent years in RVS schools and activities — including 4‑H — building relationships across the division. We volunteered at schools, showed up for concerts, games, and competitions, and supported all students with inclusion and kindness. When families reach out to me now, I respond the way I did when my own kids needed answers: quickly, respectfully, and with practical next steps. Today our oldest is getting close to graduating with her Education Degree and will take her rank as an Alberta Teacher - public education is a home-grown priority in our household. What that means at the Board table:
✅ Put more dollars into classrooms and front‑line supports.
✅ Insist on clear, timely communication with parents and communities.
✅ Keep debates focused on what helps students learn in real classrooms.

FUTURE PLANS
This role is my passion and I’m making a full-time commitment to it. Recent wins in Career Education and modular advocacy happened because I could devote the time and energy required.Next big project: Build an Agriculture (Ag) Program or School within RVS — potential partners could include Ag for Life, Airdrie Food Bank, Crossfield & Madden Food Bank, Garden of Hope, Kathyrn School, 4-H, and others to deliver learning through an agricultural lens. I was disappointed to see “The Farm” program close and will work to rebuild and expand hands-on, community-rooted Ag learning under the public-school umbrella.Goals for the next term:✅ Become a valued member of the Langdon, rural Chestermere and Indus communities✅ Continue multi‑year modernizations and equitable investment beyond the three large urban centres (Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere).✅ Continue to serve on provincial committees (TEBA, ASEBP) to support system‑level funding and wellness.✅ Work with invested community partners to develop an Ag School or Program somewhere in Ward 2.✅ Secure a new school in Crossfield with sustained advocacy to keep it at the top of the capital list.✅ Advocate within the Board and RVS for a fulsome parent transportation survey before any further service level changes or costs are considered.
NORMA'S RECORD
Norma has dedicated her time and skills to building strong schools and strong communities1) Created and Led the Crossfield Career Fair• Built a unique career fair model that brings employers alongside post‑secondaries and agencies to strengthen career education — a core RVS learning priority.• Partnerships forged: Crossfield Chamber, W.G. Murdoch School, Rocky View Schools, and Chinook’s Edge School Division.• Year 1: ~500 attendees; Year 2: 700+ attendees with 30+ employers and 15 post‑secondary/career agencies.• Secured grants for two years; if re‑elected, will deliver another fair in 2026.2) Space for Students: Modular Classroom Advocacy• Personally built strategic relationships with Modus Structures (Alberta modular manufacturer) with three facility tours.• Successfully persuaded RVS to actively advocate for modular classrooms as a key part of Space for Students — now reflected in RVS and City of Airdrie advocacy.

• Budget advocacy: Voted against the most recent RVS budget because it did not direct enough resources to classrooms, publicly elevating the issue.• Funding formula win: Helped implement a 2‑year (vs 3‑year) Weighted Moving Average (WMA) to improve funding levels at RVS.• Capital & facilities: Led and supported work toward Langdon’s new high school and the first artificial turf on the east side of the division; supported modernization at Indus School and recent BCS modernization (summer completion).• Boundary engagement: Co‑led meaningful community engagement in Langdon as Horseshoe Crossing High School opened; feedback from families changed the division’s initial direction.• Board leadership model: Implemented a more shared Board leadership approach.• Provincial representation: Elected by trustees province‑wide to serve on TEBA and ASEBP committees.• Community service: Countless families helped with transportation, specialized supports, and school‑family problem solving.
